Global Health Alliance (GHA) successfully completed a three-day Essential Newborn Care (ENC) 1 & 2 Training in partnership with Green Hope University, focused on strengthening lifesaving skills for newborn care in Somalia.

The training was led by GHA Champions Dr. Muna Abdirizak, Dr. Habiba Shiekh, and Dr. Fatima Qasim, whose expertise and dedication guided participants through practical, hands-on learning designed to reduce preventable newborn deaths.

Day One: Laying the Foundation

The first day marked the official launch of the ENC training. Students from Green Hope University arrived engaged and prepared, demonstrating strong interest and commitment to improving newborn health outcomes.

Sessions focused on the fundamentals of essential newborn care, building both technical knowledge and confidence. From the start, participants showed a clear understanding of the importance of early, skilled intervention in saving newborn lives.

Day Two: Skills, Practice, and Leadership

On the second day, training continued with deeper clinical skill development and hands-on practice. GHA extends sincere appreciation to the Champions for maintaining high-quality instruction and mentorship throughout the sessions.

Special thanks are extended to Dr. Mohamud Mohamed Said Hooto, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Green Hope University, for his leadership, facilitation, and continued support of this initiative. His involvement reflects the importance of institutional collaboration in strengthening healthcare education.

Students remained highly engaged, asking questions, practicing techniques, and reinforcing their readiness to serve their communities.

Day Three: Completion and Certification

The final day of the training focused on reinforcing key competencies, teamwork, and real-world application of essential newborn care practices. Participants demonstrated strong collaboration and commitment to improving maternal and child health across Somalia.

At the conclusion of the training, certificates were awarded to all participants who successfully completed the three-day program. These certificates represent more than attendance; they reflect readiness, responsibility, and the ability to apply lifesaving care where it is needed most.

Gratitude and Looking Ahead

Global Health Alliance extends heartfelt appreciation to Green Hope University, Dr. Mohamud Mohamed Said Hooto, the GHA Champions, and all individuals who contributed to the success of this training.

We also thank Asad Xadaadir for professionally documenting the training and preserving these important moments.

Most importantly, we recognize the students whose dedication, energy, and commitment define the success of this program. They represent a growing generation of healthcare professionals prepared to protect newborn lives and strengthen maternal care in their communities.

Through training, partnership, and local leadership, Global Health Alliance remains committed to Saving Little Breaths and building a stronger future for maternal and child health in Somalia.
